Biography: Sir Steven Redgrave is one of the most recognised figures in both rowing and British Olympian history. He has won five gold medals at the Olympics between 1988 and 2000, and is a nine-times World Champion. He was diagnosed with diabetes in 1997, but overcame it with “special guidance and training” to win his fifth gold medal in the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, Australia. Sir Steve was awarded the MBE in the New Year's Honours List in 1987 and the CBE in the New Year's Honours List of 1997. Following his success at the Sydney Olympics, he was awarded a Knighthood in the 2001 New Years Honours List. |
