Item Description: This series of work is an exploration into using the qualities of paint to represent landscapes. A heavy background of colour was applied giving depth to each piece. Oil and acrylic paints were thinned carefully to varied thickness and poured onto the canvas in precise action. As the paint moved over the surface the canvas was tipped and moved to make the paint move faster/slower or to alter direction. Layers of paint were built up in this way, and the end result is a collage of colour and shapes creating something like a sunset or sunrise scene.

Biography:
With inspiration from artists such as Ian Davenport and Morris Louis, both masters of the ‘drip’ technique, these paintings were attempting to reference something recognisable using an abstract painterly technique. The overall appearance is a colourful abstract surface and yet at the same time there is an element drawing the eye closer to see a landscape. |
